Language Arts

Goal: To develop lifelong readers and writers.

Cartwright School District supports a balanced literacy framework. A balanced literacy program fosters the skills of reading, writing, thinking, speaking and listening.  Balanced literacy allows teachers to differentiate reading and writing instruction by providing explicit and systematic instruction that meets the individual needs of the student.

Cartwright is pleased to have implemented the Summer Reading Program with all students in the district. Each student recieved a Summer Reading Program book bag at the end of the school year with various books to support reading during the summer. Below is an attached Summer Reading Timeline for parents that can be used for pacing out the books through the summer.
Pacing Guides

The K-5 Reading Pacing Guides have been updated. The Performance Objectives and Blueprints have not changed; however, we have aligned the pacing guides more closely with our Core reading program.
